Together in Barnet and Homeless Action in Barnet integration

We are pleased to announce that on April 18th 2024 the Charity Commission approved the integration of the two charities. The night shelter is now a project of HAB.

Critically, there will be no visible change in the operation of the night shelter which will continue to be a core service of the integrated charity.

We will continue to run a night shelter within the local community to house rough sleepers from October to May each year to provide for the needs of the most vulnerable in the Barnet community.

Important news about HAB and TiB

The trustees of Homeless Action in Barnet (HAB) and Together in Barnet (TiB) are pleased to announce plans designed to improve the services offered to clients of both charities.

Subject to the appropriate governance and regulatory approvals, it is intended that the two charities will formally integrate as soon as is practicable. This will enable the existing emergency night shelter to be provided in a more streamlined and cost effective way. In addition, it will also create the scope for a more holistic service to be offered to people experiencing homelessness drawing on the volunteers who support the current TiB provision within the more structured framework provided by HAB.

Critically, there will be no visible change in the operation of the night shelter which will continue to be a core service of the integrated charity.

The Winter Night Shelter

“Your pure human kindness is a joy to behold.”

One of our guests wrote a beautiful poem to say ‘thank you’ to the shelter at Barnet.

 Our Mission:

Shelter for people experiencing homelessness

Together in Barnet's aim is to tackle homelessness in the London Borough of Barnet. The charity runs a night shelter within the local community to house rough sleepers from October to May each year. Night Shelter Donations

Our Night Shelter costs £5.40 per guest per night to run over the coldest months of the year. We rely on donations and volunteers to keep the shelter running. Can you give some of your money or time to help keep it running? You could even donate on behalf of a loved one as a wonderful gift.

Volunteering

Volunteers play a key role at Together in Barnet. The Night Shelter is run by a network of volunteers, who cook food, greet our guests, and make sure everyone’s safe and well looked after. We are always looking for people to volunteer at the Night Shelter, or help us with fundraising. We offer full training to all our volunteers, and a rewarding environment in which to give something back to the community.

Volunteer Stories

Helping to transport the bedding bags from one venue to another is a small part of my day but I know that my 20 minute drive in the morning means that someone will have a comfy night’s sleep”
